7th January 2010

New Year, New Opportunities.

News and views by Christine Hodgson

Wonder if you're like me and as a new year dawns I find myself contemplating new beginnings. What will the new year hold? What choices will come my way? What would I like to achieve in the next 12 months? A keen sense of excitement and anticipation prevails as 2010 begins to unfold. And I don't want answers, just the sense of some things new but undefined about to happen.

Photographically there will be lots to aim for - more exhibitions to enter, more photo's to take, more exciting places to see and snap, more people to meet.

Like most folks, family events will dominate my year, birthdays, weddings, celebrations, sharing, caring, loving, and enjoying, with a smattering of heartaches amongst it I'm sure. One way of recording these meaningful times is to use our camera's to capture them and record the associated feelings for our families. Taking time to jot down details of events with dates and subjects identified will be appreciated by youngsters in the future. Could be the beginnings of a memory box perhaps? A rewarding thing to do and so valued by those generations coming after us.

A new development from the PSA

By logging into the PSA website,(here) you are now able to view the January 2010 volume 2 edition of the PSA journal. There is a quick start guide to viewing the journal online, on page 11. This is additional to the hard copy which will continue to be circulated, but should alleviate the frustrations if delivery happens to be late.

Bas Montgomery, WCPG member, has taken advantage of an image analysis course available through PSA membership. The course is designed to improve one's personal work and also, and perhaps just as importantly, how you might go about expressing your opinion about others images. It is not designed to qualify members as judges, but when completed, a certificate will be issued and participants names will be listed on the PSA club services website, and in the PSA journal. There are no additional materials required as the course is self contained and consists of 12 lessons, to include 2 images to be analyzed in each lesson, and the course to be completed in 3 months. Applications for an extension of the time would be considered for special circumstances.

If interested, go here. Bas says there is likely to be a waiting list.

Don't forget the 2nd Great British Small Print Circuit which is to take place in February. Prints have started to come in, in spite of recent postal strikes, floods, and the current unusual snow falls with very wintry weather in our county!
