What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare...

News and views by Christine Hodgson

From the poem writen by "Supertramp" and Newport born, Wiliam Henry Davies, these well known words serve to remind us that from time to time it's good to take the time just 'to be', and not to allow our lives to be completely dominated by chores that have to be done, or by just being too 'busy busy', or we risk missing and soaking up all the beautiful and wonderful things that surround us. Seeing the spring flowers appearing with their pale young shoots, being encouraged to reach up to the sun, feeling the suns rays warm our faces, watching it play on the leaves or shimmer on the water. Making this time, enjoying this promise of Spring can be so rejuvenating and enriching with the last 2 lines of the poem reminding us: "A poor life this is if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.

For me, this is such good medicine, and is a real bonus if I see something I want to capture on camera. The experience/the picture, interesting to ponder on the priorities for each of us.

'Busy Busy'

Guilty M'Lord here. The run up to Christmas, extra work created by the November floods and the unusually wintry weather of late, have all contributed to feeling rushed with just about everything else!

I forgot to include a thank you to the Porrett's, Pat and Alan, who entertained our group so well when they brought some of their lovely pictures to show one December's wintry evening. It's always good to be able to listen and see other's skills in photography, especially ones so proficient. There were some great images on show for us all to learn from and appreciate. Thank you again for showing and telling us all about them and not least, for travelling so far to do so. Much appreciated.

__________

Venue.

The group have continued to meet in the Distington Community Center when weather has allowed. This is working very well for us and is supportive to the center, although I did hear that at a recent meeting, there was much ado when the alarm was set off and nobody knew how to stop it!

The next meeting there is 18/2/10 to prepare for the following weekends small print circuit. There will be a lot to discuss I expect about roles, responsibilities, and to go through the timetable for the 2 days in West Cumbria, so should be a very valuable meeting.

__________

The Circuit.

There is of course already a lot of preparatory work being done diligently by some willing and very able group members, accepting, sorting and logging pictures, working on the catalog, net working etc. If last year is anything to go by, the event itself will be full and demanding, but very enjoyable with lots of cups of tea to keep us going!

The work doesn't stop there of course, with the results to be entered on the web site and into the catalog, picture sorting/returning etc. etc. to be done on completion of the circuit. The pictures are coming in and it looks like another big entry for the circuit with about 4500 images to date, so get ready, gird your loins everybody, let the countdown commence, but don't forget at some point to:

'stand beneath the boughs and stare as long as shep and cows'
